Construction Skills Queensland Annual Training Plan 2008 2009 has identified 6 Industry Priorities. One of them is improving the apprentice and trainee retention rate. Blue Dog Training has taken on this challenge with its innovative training delivery model and has achieved spectacular results in a relatively short time.

1. Improved Apprentice and Trainee Retention. The high attrition rate of building and construction apprentices and trainees within Queensland is a blight on the industry. DETA estimates that the completion rate for apprentices and trainees is approximately 64.8% and 57.0% respectively. These figures indicate that potentially 35% of all government and industry investment in apprenticeship and traineeship training is ultimately wasted. In addition to directly reducing the impact of training investment, these unacceptably high cancellation rates also serve to further reduce the availability of skilled tradespeople within the industry.

Currently the retention rate of apprentices enrolled with BDT is more than 90% which is 30%higher than the state average. Testimony indeed to the contribution BDT is making to help the Smart State reduce its skills shortages. The Building and Construction Industry is facing the worst skills shortages for 30 years. – Blue Dog Training have taken on the challenge with their innovation and dedication to quality to reduce this skills shortage and so far are achieving the type of Smart Results expected in the Smart Learning State. Go Queenslander!!!!
